short films analysis

About a girl About a girl is a social realism short film about film set in 2001 about a girl (obviously) and her family and friends who live on a council estate and are quite deprived, this short film and fish tank are very similar following a young girl who wants to become famous and make a living from there talent as a singer/ dancer and they use this dream to escape there current living situation. However About a girl is allot more explicit than Fish tank and has a larger cliff hanger, which in my opinion is good as it makes the audience want more. The dark and explicit turn when she throws the baby in the river shifts the tone of the project from a girl who dreams to one day to become famous to a girl who dreams to escape the harsh and cruel reality she lives in, this scene also adds a layer of sadness to her stories when she is reminiscing on the way to the canal thinking of better times and not focusing on the present. I like the social realism of this film, how it cuts between...

trainspotting essay

Trainspotting is a 1996 british social realism film about the struggles of heroin addicts in 90s Scotland, it raises multiple different opinions and ideologies about addiction and the effect it has on society, also how the social acceptance of the heroin addicts can be clearly recognized by certain scenes in the movie. The context of the film is also extremely relevant to the plot and Ideologies of the film, since the 90s Scotland has been the worst country in Europe for deaths from drug related to deaths, even today this is still a major issue for the country, this made drug overdoses and drug addictions a focus point of Scottish media which increased the social awareness of the crisis. Even during the production of the film to understand the impact of the addiction Ewan Mcgregor went to a drug addiction recovery clinic to research the mannerisms and thoughts of an addict, going to the lengths to learn how to make heroin from one of the people in rehabilitation. The film starts with ...

La La Land essay

Image
La La Land Essay In La La Land Cinematography is extremely important as it can be used to show the power or struggle of a character's journey and how they feel instead of blatantly showing it.  The final scene is the perfect example of how important Cinematography is and how it can affect a story the scene begins with a long shot which zooms in to him playing the piano as the lighting fades, this dark surroundings may reflect how alone and isolated he feels due to being reunited with Mia, seeing her with a different man, then a spotlight shines down upon him representing how he feels under pressure to perform well as he wants to impress her. This is followed by a reaction shot of Mia where the cinematography mirrors the cinematography in the previous shot by having a long shot zooming in as the lights fade this visualize the connection still between Mia and Seb and how they still love each other even after 5 years. Then there's a sudden reverse close-up shot back to Seb whi...

Winters bone

Image
Winters bone "Winters Bone" is an independent film made in 2010 and directed by Debra Granik It is a set in an area of the Ozark's has a different society to the rest of the world where women do hard labour and the men are in power. Debra Granik was insistent in the movie being Neo-realistic and she accomplished this with a budget of $2million by using handheld shots making the film look like a documentary adding verisimilitude to the film. "The little sparrow scene." Starts bright and jolly this juxtaposes the rest of the film so far as it has been very dark with very hard light as lots natural light has been used with less artificial this makes the movie look more realistic, however in this scene there is allot brighter colours reflecting the happiness of the people in the room, all the sets used in the movie were actual houses of families in the Ozark's, these houses could be a long distance apart so Jenifer Lawrence and the other actors would walk t...

evaluation AIW

Alice in wonderland syndrome has turned out different to our original plan for the project however i feel that the end product is still high quality the story board shows the original plan for the short film however due to a mix of stylistic chooses and more footage than we expected to shot. The final product was in total 4 minutes 1 minute longer than the asked time but we feel that we couldn't part with because it added more depth to the film. The sound in the film is primarily non diegetic sound with the voice over and the diegetic sound is the nature, birds and trees.
